Final Major Project

Across Wales, Welsh placenames are being translated to English, although these translations aren’t always relevant to the original name nor to the history or beauty of the area. To show that Anglicisation is deteriorating Welsh culture and language, I’m creating a series of protest signs of Welsh and English placenames. My target audience is the non-Welsh speakers that are visiting our degree show, therefore it’s important to help them understand the differences and importance of these names. To go along with the signs, I’m creating AR pop ups, by scanning the signs it will either lead you to an explanation of the name, history and individuality of the Welsh names, or a virus and glitch when scanning the English names, suggesting that they are incorrect, and we don’t accept them in our culture.
